FRANCIS T. (TOM) COLEMAN

Tom Coleman is a partner in the Labor and Employment Law Section of Williams Mullen. Located in the firm’s Washington D.C. office, he concentrates his practice on all areas of labor and employment law. During his extensive 30-year career, Mr. Coleman has served as labor counsel to national trade associations and large corporate clients, as well as numerous other professional and business organizations.

Mr. Coleman began his legal career with the U.S. Marine Corps Judge Advocate General Program. Thereafter, he commenced his legal career, now spanning over 30 years, in the Labor and Employment field. From 1971 to 1980, he served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Coleman is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, the state of Maryland, the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals (Third, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Circuits).

A past chairman of the American Society for Association Executives Legal Section Council. Additionally, he has been a member of the American Employment Law Council since 1994. He recently was elected to membership in the American Bar Association’s prestigious College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, Inc., and is a member of the Labor Law Sections of the American, District of Columbia and Maryland Bar Associations.

Mr. Coleman has written and lectured extensively in the field of labor and employment law and co-authored the nationally renowned, Employment-Labor Law Audit (ELLA), a self-administered audit program analyzing all legal facets of the employment relationship. He is co-chair of the Center for Positive Management Leadership (CPML), the much acclaimed interactive management training program designed to “Build Trust in the Workplace.”

Mr. Coleman received his Law and Masters of Law degrees from Georgetown University, where he was the first recipient of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Labor Law Award.
